Alabama FC South joins the Gulf Coast Premier League as newest member.

Montgomery, AL (March 6th, 2024) – Alabama FC South (AFC South) joins the Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL) top division heading into the 2024 season. The club’s inclusion in the league’s eastern conference adds another major metro area to one of the fastest growing regions in the nation.

The decision to incorporate Alabama FC South into the GCPL was met with widespread approval. The newcomers home stadium, Emory Folmar YMCA Championship Stadium, has a rich history and capacity for hosting competitive matches that make it an ideal venue for hosting and competing in the GCPL.

Jeremy Poklemba, President of the GCPL, expressed his satisfaction with the addition of Alabama FC South to the league. “We welcome Alabama FC South to the GCPL,” said Poklemba. “Their presence expands our geographic footprint and further highlights our commitment to fostering the senior levels throughout the Gulf Coast region. We’re excited for their participation and contribution to the league.”

Alabama FC South views their entry into the GCPL as a significant milestone in their development as a prominent soccer entity in central Alabama. Having already seeing success at the youth ranks, along with a dedicated and ambitious coaching staff, they are poised to make a notable impact on the league.

“The YMCA of Greater Montgomery and Alabama FC South is excited to bring the Gulf Coast Premier League to Montgomery and Central, AL.” stated Manny Sanchez, VP of Alabama FC South. “This will be a great opportunity for our community to watch high level soccer competition and help continue the growth of our game in the River Region.  Also having a senior level team will give our youth players a pathway to showcase their talents at the next level and give area college players an opportunity to enhance their skills during the summer months.  We are truly looking forward to the opportunity to compete with the Gulf Coast area Clubs this summer and creating some rivalries for the future!”

The coaching staff shares this sentiment, acknowledging the opportunity to nurture talent while competing at a high level. “We are very excited and happy with the opportunity to join the Gulf Coast Premier League this Summer and play alongside soccer clubs with a rich history in the Gulf Coast area,” noted Mateo Peral, Technical Director of Alabama FC South. “We’re fully committed to the continuous growth of the GCPL along with providing our club with a pathway to reach new audiences within our city so we can develop talented players for our Senior & Youth programs. We are hoping to make the most out of our team’s participation in the 2024 Season and look forward to working with and competing against the rest of the teams in our league this summer.”

Alabama FC South will be joining the East Conference replacing Gulf Coast United who has been placed in the West Conference.

ALABAMA FC PARTNERS WITH LEGION FC

Legion FC Announces Partnership with Birmingham United Soccer Association/Alabama FC

Partnership preserves opportunity for elite players to train at the highest competitive level in the USL Academy league, in ECNL, and with their respective high school teams

BIRMINGHAM, AL (May 9, 2022) – Birmingham Legion FC announced Monday that the club has entered into an agreement with Birmingham United Soccer Association/Alabama FC benefitting youth soccer throughout the state of Alabama and continuing its reach into the local community at large.

This partnership is uniquely intended to provide the best developmental pathway for young players within Alabama FC – including high-level competition in the USL Academy and ECNL leagues – while also recognizing the importance of Alabama High School Athletic Association soccer in a player’s experience and development.

“The goal of the Legion FC Academy has been to provide the best development for young players with professional level training and competitive league competitions, while also recognizing the importance of Alabama High School soccer in a player’s growth,” said Jay Heaps, Legion FC President and General Manager. “Partnering with BUSA/AFC is an important next step for the Legion FC Academy in strengthening development and providing a pathway for players to reach the next level.”

The affiliation between Legion FC and BUSA/AFC provides the first ever local pathway for a player to begin playing soccer at age three with BUSA and end up in the professional ranks competing with Legion FC, while also allowing top players to continue to spend valuable time growing and developing with Alabama High School Athletic Association teams.

“BUSA/Alabama FC are thrilled to create a strategic partnership with Legion FC,” said Andrew Brower, BUSA/AFC Executive Director. “This partnership will allow for meaningful developmental opportunities for all ages, and levels within our organization, while also providing a pro pathway for our oldest boys within our Alabama FC ECNL/ECRL platform.  We are thrilled to begin this relationship and believe that our shared visions of development will continue to raise the bar for soccer in Birmingham.”

As a result of Legion FC’s partnership with BUSA/Alabama FC, the club’s youth players in the Birmingham area, at Alabama FC East in Oxford, and at Alabama FC South in Montgomery, will all have increased access to Legion FC coaches and players, as well as exclusive fan experiences during Legion FC’s USL Championship games at Protective Stadium.
